The Warm Hearts Network (WHN) was founded in Albuquerque, NM in the 1980s by a group of people who worked at a state facility for the developmentally disabled.  In 1990, when the Delta Society founded Pet Partners®, WHN members decided to register through that excellent program.  In 2000, WHN became an official Affiliate.

The Delta Society is the only organization that registers people with any domesticated pet as Pet Partners teams.  Currently, WHN Pet Partners teams include people with their dogs, cats, house rabbits, birds, llamas, pygmy goats, and miniature horses.

We offer the Pet Partners Team Training Course and the Pet Partners Team Evaluation several times a year.  If your dog is not quite ready yet for Team Evaluations, we can recommend some good local classes to help you get there.

We provide help and support to new teams in finding placements.  We have programs and  contacts in a variety of facilities including hospitals, nursing homes, Alzheimer's facilities, retirement homes, adult day care facilities, hospice programs, and school settings.  We are especially proud of DEAL (Dogs in Education Assisting with Literacy) - our reading program in Special Education classes in the Albuquerque Public Schools.  We hold general meetings a few times a year, and we occasionally present workshops on topics relevant to AAA/AAT.  Interns are always welcome.

The following links are to an article which appeared in Delta Society's "Interactions," Volume 21, No. 2, 2003. The article is about the D.E.A.L. (Dogs in Education Assisting with Literacy) program in the Albuquerque Public Schools.  The "Interactions" article was written by Keri Scott, a WHN member. Keri is a certified Pet Partner (with two different dogs), a certified Instructor, and a certified Evaluator.
